Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu
Our Partner in Kathmandu will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Have a good rest at your hotel.
Day 2 Transfer to the Gyirong Port
Get up early. Our staff will pick you up at your hotel at 6:00 am. We will send off to the Gyirong Port. The road condition from Kathmandu to Gyirong Port is not good. In the rainy season(from June to August), the Gyirong is often closed because of the landslide. So, from September to November is the best time to do this Kathmandu to Lhasa overland tour. In the evening, you will arrive at the Gyirong Port and meet your guide and driver from Lhasa.
Today, we will stay overnight at Gyirong.
Day 3 Gyirong to Old Tingri, 300km
This is the first day of your Tibet tour. We will start to drive on the Friendship Highway. Your guide will take you to the old Tingri. Driving along the way to old Tingri, you can enjoy the scenery of the Himalayan ranges, and get a clear view of the several highest peaks (over 8000m) in the world if weather permits. Such as Mt. Qowowuyag (8201m), Mt. Makalu (8463m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m) and Mt. Everest(8848m).
Day 4 Tingri To Shigatse, 240km, Approx. 9hrs
Today we will drive to Shigatse. On the way to Shigatse, you will see the 5000KM G318 National Highway milestone at Lhatse. This is also a hot place to take the photo. The G318 National Highway is regarded as the most beautiful national highway of China. It starts from the Shanghai People’s Square and ends at Lhasa of Tibet. Then we will visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery which is the most important monastery of Shigatse.
Day 5 Shigatse to Lhasa
Send off to Lhasa by the Southern Friendship Highway. You will pass the Gampala pass (4794m) and see view Karola Glacier from a far view. The holy Yamdrok Lake is also on the way to Lhasa. Yamdrok Lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains.
Day 6 Lhasa sightseeing
Today we will start our sightseeing in Lhasa. There are four must-seeing attractions in Lhasa and we will visit them during the two days Lhasa tour. In the first day, we will visit the Potala Palace, the landmark of Lhasa. Potala Palace is the highest palace in the world and is built in the 7th century by the 33rd King Songtsen Gangpo. In the 17th Century, the 15th Dalai Lama rebuilt it. In the afternoon, we will visit the Jokhang Temple which is located in the center of old Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple is the most sacred temple in Buddist culture.
Day 7 Lhasa sightseeing
Today, we will go on our Lhasa sightseeing. In the morning, we will visit Drepung Monastery. There are more than 1000 monks studying and living in the Drepung Monastery. In the afternoon, we will visit Sera Monastery. The highlight of visiting Sera Monastery is the Buddhist Debating. It is between 15:00-17:00 from monastery to Saturday. Day 8 Lhasa Departure Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to the airport.
