Fly to Tibet is the most convenient way to get to Tibet. There are three popular cities to take a direct flight to Tibet. These are Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xian. It is a 2-hour flight journey. You could also take a flight to Tibet from other cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and so on. But fights from these cities will stop 1~2 hours at Chengdu Chongqing or Xian.
Taking a train to Tibet is regarded as the cheapest and worth way to get to Tibet. The scenery along the Qinghai-Tibet railway is full of countless snow mountain, grassland, and Yark. The top five popular cities for travelers to take a train to Tibet are Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Chengdu, and Xining. Taking a train from Xining to Tibet is regarded as the first choice for tourists would like to do a train tour. The highlight of the scenery along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway starts from Xining. It is just a 22-hour train journey. I recommend you take an evening train to Lhasa from Xining as the scenery near Tibet is more amazing.
Get to Tibet by road.
Getting to Tibet by road is the most expensive and time-killing way. You need to spend 7~15 days doing this overland tour. There are five roads to Tibet. These are the Sichuan-Tibet road, Qinghai-Tibet road, Yunnan-Tibet road, Xinjiang -Tibet road. At present, foreigners travelers are only allowed to get to Tibet by road via Qinghai-Tibet road.
